Create effects on the ground such as footsteps, scratch marks, or water damage.
This would really help to add some tangible visual storytelling and give something for players to spot themselves, rather than just making a perception check.
For example, using faded footsteps to indicate a secret passage, or a trail of scratch marks on the wooden floor to show that a heavy piece of furniture has been hastily pushed to hide something.
