Merging Maps Together

what about taking two separate maps, and placing them together as one? For example, like with 3D modeling programs, you have separate parts and then merge them together. I have seen multiple people on the steam workshop that make a separate map for each building within a town, what I am suggesting is being able to take those maps and put them together.
